5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is a metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan which raises levels of serotonin in the brain and produces a positive effect in improving the emotional well-being. 5-HTP is produced from the seeds of Griffonia Simplicifolia, a tropical shrub that is found in West Africa.

5-HTP from Now Foods has a positive effect on the reduction of depression , increasing self-esteem, in sleep, mood, anxiety , , aggressiveness control of appetite, body temperature , sexual behavior and sense of pain . The Serotonin is present in the cells of the gastrointestinal region, serotonergic neurons in the brain, the pineal gland (situated near the brain and hormone production-related sleep-regulating melatonin - from the Serotonin ) and blood platelets. Is synthesized from Tryptophan , at the level of the brain, gastrointestinal tract, bronchi, thyroid, pancreas and thymus.
